One of the greatest hopes of a golfer is to hit a hole in one, known as “Hole In One”.
Achieved by only some golfers, hole-in-one is a golfer’s dream, requiring great skill and/or sometimes great luck. Some players – even great players – go their whole lives without making 1, while some others can achieve several with practice and training. Even on the PGA Tour, with professional golfers who have dedicated their lives to the sport, holes in one are very rare. But it can happen!
Take the example of Norman Manley in California, he holds the record for the most holes in one with 59! Either Norman has honed his hole in a skill or it’s a lot of luck.
Luckily, if you’re looking to up your game and hit a hole-in-one, there are some things you can do to perfect your shot.
Here are 5 tips you can apply to increase your chances of getting a hole-in-one in golf.
1. Choose your perfect day
You may not realize it, but the weather can really impact your ball game. Temperature and humidity can influence air resistance and drag. Warmer, saturated air will allow your shot to travel farther, while a tailwind can send your bullet yards forward! When preparing to play golf, consider weather conditions and their impact on how to get a golf hole-in-one.
2. Play your nominal odds
It may seem obvious, but you have a much better chance of getting a hole-in-one on a par-3 hole than on a par-5 hole. If you really want to increase your chances of getting one, try it on a par 3 hole. It is very rare for a golfer to hit an ace on a par 5 hole. (Might as well play the lotto right away!)
3. Have confidence in yourself
Some golfers say they can just feel it – it’s the optimism and confidence that comes with the game. the tee. While many beginner golfers can be intimidated on a tricky hole, professional golfers focus on where they want to land the ball. Think carefully about the area in which you want to locate your ball and don’t worry about obstacles such as water, sandboxes or trees.
4. Square to Hole
Once you have focused on your target, position yourself at the hole. Your left shoulder should face the hole and your left foot should be directly under your left shoulder. Establishing a base is the key to a successful hole-in-one.
5. Go big and aim high
You’ll never get a hole-in-one if you try to hit a low shot and bounce it back to the green. The only way to land a hole-in-one is to hit it high and on the course. When you bring your club back to shoulder height, cross the ball with speed and velocity. Perform a full and aggressive swing to increase your chances!
Finally, if you really want to increase your chances of hitting a hole-in-one, hitting the driving range regularly and practicing with a Pro is essential. Find out what it feels like to work with medium and long irons as they are less forgiving!
